Digital marketers are in high demand. As businesses spend more on digital marketing initiatives and campaigns, this is a great career to pursue. However, many businesses report a lack of digital skills, making it difficult to compete online, increase leads, and generate revenue.

In a study of CMOs, “Marketing Evolution: Leadership, Transformation, Skills, Challenges, and the Future ,” 47% of respondents reported a shortage of data analysts, while 37% indicated a shortage of general digital marketing skills. The biggest challenge was achieving a greater ROI on the marketing budget.

First up is marketing strategy. This involves thinking longer term and being more strategic, so that a plan is created that everyone in a business can understand and follow. This skill comes with experience, but it can be developed.

Second in line is brand management . This involves understanding how to communicate a brand message across an unpredictable platform like social media. How can you maintain a consistent image across all of these touchpoints? How can you stay ahead of your competitors and keep your message relevant?
