April 26, everyone who is at all interested in technology, internet and innovation has marked this day with a thick digital marker in their smartphone. It is the second day of The Next Web conference, a techno walhalla for digital freaks, a time warp through the tech future. My alarm goes off and I jump from my bed – without any start-up problems – straight into the train, on my way to Amsterdam.

Arriving at the Westergasfabriek I am overwhelmed by futuristic lights, green number series a la Matrix, universe visuals and a teeming tech freak crowd. Never before have I felt so close to the future.

I start the day with a lecture by Robert Scoble: technical evangelist, gadget lover, blogger, ex-Microsoft employee and a wonderful speaker to listen to. With his Google Glass and passionate way of sri lanka phone data speaking he immediately sets the right – futuristic – tone.

Robert Scoble

Robert is going to talk to us about context. Great, an extremely relevant topic that – rightly – is going to play an increasingly important role in all facets of the online world. Robert takes this topic to a higher level in his lecture. He takes us on a journey through the near future and talks about the endless possibilities. What if content were optimally personalized? What if you were given the perfect offer from the perfect provider at the perfect moment? What if the enormous amount of available context were used optimally?

Time, location, environment, social frame of reference; all factors that can make the information we are presented with more personalized. His Google Glass could recognize whether he is cycling or driving and adjust the suggested route accordingly. If I walk past the water taxi and there are ten friends living on the other side, I might be interested in a discount on the fare.
