Some very notable changes are coming to all WordPress users, including our customers. In the coming months, WordPress will release a new editorial experience that will change the way you create posts and pages: Gutenberg. A brand new editor that will also bring many new tools for content creation.
To help you get ready, we'll outline the changes to expect with Gutenberg and explain how to test it before the official release. Our goal is to make this change easy for all SiteGround customers.
Gutenberg: A New Dynamic Editing Experience
The new editor promises to make it easier to create rich media content with images and shortcodes. While the current WordPress editor supports these elements, Gutenberg is a more intuitive way to design advanced customizations without requiring in-depth knowledge of coding.
One of the key differences in the new editor is the drag-and-drop block design. You new zealand mobile database can create reusable and interchangeable content blocks with a variety of formats. You can also save custom builds to speed up future content creation, while maintaining consistency across pages.
Gutenberg not only improves the storytelling capabilities within WordPress, but opens up the possibility for theme and plugin developers to create even more engaging tools for users.

Try Gutenberg in WordPress 4.9.8
With the release of WordPress 4.9.8 on July 31, WP site owners will see a notice in their WordPress dashboard inviting them to try out the Gutenberg editor by installing a plugin. We highly recommend taking advantage of this option to familiarize yourself with the new tools.
There is also a plugin called Classic Editor, designed to make the transition to the new editing experience easier. Classic Editor has two modes that you can control in your settings. It is highly recommended to use the mode that allows websites to have Gutenberg and the current editor at the same time. This will allow you to try out Gutenberg, while still being able to switch back to the classic experience whenever you like.
The other mode of the Classic Editor plugin, exclusively enables the old editor on your site and will override Gutenberg once it becomes the default editor. This option is designed for users who want to wait longer before switching.
The future improvements to WordPress are very exciting. There is no firm date yet for the release of WordPress 5.0, but it is expected later this year. It is impressive how much work the Gutenberg development team has done so far, working to ensure that most sites, regardless of their mix of plugins, themes, and settings, will experience a smooth transition to the new editor. Plugin and theme developers have also been encouraged to make their products compatible.
