Setting up UTM tags

If you need to set up UTM tags in Google Adwords, there are two ways to do this: using “Automatic Ad Tagging” or manually.

The first option, on the one hand, provides a large volume of information on promotion, and on the other, encrypts part of the information. The second method can be deciphered without much difficulty, but working with it requires a little more effort and attention.

Also in the second case it is necessary to know the basic symbols, which are used equally in Google and Yandex:

“=” — is used to indicate the value of the tag: utm_medium=vk;

"&" is necessary to combine all parameters together: utm_term=klychevaya_fraza&utm_source= newsletter

“?” is placed after the link, that is, before the UTM tag.

Let us emphasize: after you have entered the UTM tag, there should be no spaces in the URL. We recommend using underscores or hyphens between words.

If you want to set up tags for all your Google Adwords ads (at the group, campaign or account level), tracking templates will be useful. To do this, you need to enter the value for the "utm_campaign" parameter exactly as the name is written in Adwords.
