API and its Consumer Market

As an example, we can mention the MailChimp API , which in 2007 had only 102 users. But at the beginning of 2016, its latest version reached the 80 million user mark. Another example is the Netflix API . In 2010 alone, this API provided by Netflix grew by about 37 times, compared to the previous year. These were just two of the many APIs whose use has seen enormous growth.

APIs are no longer seen as complicated or as services developed hungary mobile database by experienced programmers who had to take years of NASA courses. Applications like IFTTT , Zapier , and Pipefy are interesting because they have already opened up API functionality to non-devs. Yes, they are tools that have APIs but you don't need to be an expert to worry about the technical side, but rather to develop the business solution. If you've ever seen someone cross-posting to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter at the same time, then you've probably seen IFTTT in action.
While it's true that many extremely popular applications make use of APIs, they often do so in such a way that the average consumer probably doesn't realize it. Zapier and IFTTT are among the first to transparently use APIs in a way that the average Internet user can understand.
In the same way that Myspace enabled a generation of amateur programmers by allowing them to use HTML to create custom profile pages, IFTTT and Zapier are creating amateur API consumers by encouraging them to create their own recipes or Zaps.
