7 So what is the ideal length for a blog post?
Although it is often said that it is not the size that matters, mexico whatsapp he question of the ideal length of a blog article comes up very often.

And there, no one agrees.

300 words? 800 words? 1500 words? More? Much, much more?

Let me tell you right away: there is no ideal answer . However, there are several criteria to take into account and I will reveal them to help you choose the length of your blog articles…

What do studies say about blog post length?
Many studies have been conducted over the years to find the answer to this thorny question.

For SerpIQ in 2012, after analyzing results on 20,000 keywords, the conclusion was that the pages in the top 10 contain 2,000 words on average.
Moz in 2011 compared content length and backlinks and concluded that the longer a content, the more backlinks it generates (links from other sites to your site, an important SEO criterion).
At Backlinko in 2020, 11.8 million results were analyzed to conclude that the pages arriving in the top 10 contain on average 1447 words.

All studies conducted to date seem to show that the ideal length is between 1500 and 3000 words (which is quite a lot).

But is it that simple?

What is your goal?
Your goal as an entrepreneur is first and foremost to make sales and increase your turnover .

Writing blog posts can help you do this by improving your brand image and your positioning on Google search results .

The best thing is obviously to meet these two objectives at the same time: please Google and satisfy your reader (ideal customer).

According to Olivier Andrieu, if you exceed 1,000 words, you are writing for Google and not just for the Internet user because they will not read everything (unless it is super interesting).

You must know it yourself: the majority of Internet users read diagonally. They skim over titles, intros, and bold elements for an average reading time of between 6 and 7 minutes (and it's worse on mobile where the screen is smaller).

One reason? It’s complicated to read on a screen and more tiring for the eyes.

For me, it's hard to cover a topic in less than 600 words (it's written very quickly). But of course, the length of your blog post will depend on the topic you're covering.

Length of a blog post: what is the topic/theme?
The topic of your article also determines its length .

It is impossible to give all the elements on a subject like “how to write an SEO article” in less than 1500 or even 3000 words.

On the other hand, a current topic such as "this week's movie releases" may not exceed 400 words.

To help you, Neil Patel (founder of Uber Suggest) conducted his little survey based on the themes searched for by Internet users correlated with the average length of content :

Fintech: 2,000-2,150 words
Finance: 2,100-2,500 words
Industry: 1,700-1,900 words
E-commerce: 1,500-1,700 words
Real Estate: 1,800-1,900 words
DIY/Gardening: 1,100-1,200 words (lots of DIY videos)
Technologies: 800-1,000 words
Marketing: 2,500-3,000 words
Health: 2,000-2,150 words
Mode: 800-950 words
HR/Recruitment: 900-1,000 words
Food: 1,400-1,900 words
Travel/Tourism: 1,500-1,850 words
Cinema/series: 1,500-1,700 words.

Of course, these are just averages. No need to apply what is written to the letter.

As a general rule, the more general a topic is, the longer the article will be. The more specific it is, the shorter it will be (but again, this is not an absolute truth).

What is your target?
It always comes back to the same thing: know your target and your ideal customer perfectly before defining your editorial strategy and writing blog articles.

How old is your persona?
Is your target audience used to and wants to consume short or long content?
How knowledgeable is your ideal client on the topic?
What level of response is your customer avatar looking for: a quick or detailed response?
Etc.

The length of your content should fit your ideal customer. Think about it!

Quality BEFORE quantity on all content!
Quality should always prevail over quantity .

If you've covered the topic in 500 words, don't try to reach 1,000 words at all costs, otherwise you'll go off topic and start blabbering seriously.

There is nothing more painful for the reader than having to read a 1,000-word article when he could have had an answer in 300...

Keep in mind:

A short or long article of poor quality will not position well.

A short article of excellent quality can rank well on certain queries.

A long text of excellent quality will generally rank well.

The goal is ALWAYS to respond as best as possible to the Internet user's request.

The site where the blog post was published
For me, one essential point is often forgotten in articles and videos dealing with the subject: the site where your article is published.

Be careful: a long article of excellent quality on a poorly optimized site will probably not be positioned on the first page of Google results.

Blog posts are just one link in the chain when it comes to SEO . You can write the best articles in the world, but if your site is poorly optimized, you'll be battling windmills.

You need to have all three pillars of SEO in the green for the blog posts you write to be pushed to the forefront of Google:

The technique
The content
Popularity

For example, if you write on the subject "fall 2021 hairstyle trend", your article will have a better chance of being positioned on the first page if it is published on a site like Grazia, Biba or Marie-France than on tendancemag.com (it's a real site ).

To find out if everything is going well for you on this side, I can carry out an audit of your site and give you recommendations to improve the overall SEO on your site.

So what is the ideal length for a blog post?
There is no ideal length to guarantee you a good position in Google search results.

However, studies show that above 1,000 words , you will have a better chance of ranking in the top 10 .

Here's how to put the odds in your favor:

Define the user's query

Answer it with a text of excellent quality, better than other texts on the subject available on the internet.

Try to exceed 1,000 words (or even more): it is a plus in terms of SEO. But be careful not to blabber!

Technically optimize your article: hn, rich semantic field, internal links, external links…

Check its positioning (Google Search Console, Ranks, etc.)

If your position has not improved after 3 months, return to step 2 to improve your response to the Internet user's query (think quality before quantity).
