E-commerce has become a necessary tool for the process of buying and selling products to take place smoothly in today's market. It certainly requires graphic inspiration, design, writing and a lot of creativity, but without a doubt, when we are talking about e-commerce we are also talking about business and technology.
Yes, technology is essential for the digital business model to work. This is what Alfonso Luna says in a new episode of Pensar Digital, the Mauna Media Podcast hosted by Jesús Maceira.
Alfonso Luna, our special guest, joins us in a new installment of our audio-adventure. He is an expert in electronic commerce (e-commerce), current general manager of Kentriki in Mexico, and shares his particular view on this business model during the podcast. Of these significant changes in this journey through the digital world, we highlight that no effective action is really free, as revealed by Alfonso Luna, an expert in electronic commerce, who lives in Mexico City and has experienced the growth of a company as solid and powerful as Microsoft.
Alfonso Luna has extensive experience in technology. He is a Computer Systems Engineer. He began his life in the technological world as a university professor in computer-aided design. In these first steps he managed to move into the corporate world and made an interesting leap to Microsoft.
It was part of the launch of technological products such as Office, "Microsoft, in its competitive spirit, combined all its products and managed to make solid strides in the technology market," says Luna.
Part of what you will hear in the podcast reveals the 15-year experience at Microsoft, going through Mexico, the United States, Venezuela and then the Andean Region. At a time when its economy was “not exactly stable,” reflects Alfonso, “there was the political instability that we already know in Venezuela and Colombia. We suffered security incidents in offices in Colombia,” he says, and yet the construction of products and marketing strategies took place, which perhaps today might be obvious but required a great deal of planning.
She highlights how demanding and absorbing the corporate gambling data mexico world can be and at the end of her time at Microsoft she decided to give back to society part of what she had received, such as university scholarships and Microsoft as a company was incredibly generous.
“I took a sabbatical year and supported an institution for children separated from their families in Venezuela, Hogar Bambi,” she says. “I shared with them my knowledge of strategy, fundraising, processes, human resources. I transferred everything I had learned to the institution.”
Luna also had her first venture in the world of electronic commerce in Venezuela, until exchange control arrived and many already know the story.
Google a business and technology school
It was in 2004 when Alfonso Luna received a call from Google and after a series of conversations he began his management as Marketing Director for Latin America. Among the experiences that Luna shares during the podcast, is that of positioning Google Ads and making this product interesting and attractive for advertising agencies, "We launched , we launched Google maps and many more new features" that you can hear in this new edition.
Google is definitely a great place to work and that is why Google has been so coveted, presenting itself differently from other technology companies, certainly the difference is huge.
"Once I left there it was a mature company, the best business school," he says.
Certainly, Google's philosophy towards its employees has been coveted, due to the freedoms that can be found within the company, such as working with pets or having ample spaces for recreation, however today it is a mature company, which meets operating standards and delivers results. It is an Internet company and what happens within it is well known, thanks to social networks.
Business and technology for successful e-commerce
In this podcast, Alfonso Luna, an expert in e-commerce, highlights key elements for an e-commerce to be successful and deliver the profitability you are looking for. “It is impressive what you can do with data, Artificial Intelligence and privacy,” in this regard, Alfonso tells us how Facebook has been careless with our data and although Google respects privacy a little more, it does not waste time inserting itself into your daily life every time it sees an opportunity.
“For entrepreneurs, the digital world and everything we can do can be overwhelming,” he says.
“Generally speaking, saying that digital marketing is easy, that you quickly get traffic and conversions, and that it is free, is a lie.”
Three elements that Alfonso Luna highlights for a digital marketing strategy to make sense are: – Having a budget. – Working with a marketing agency with staff certified in Google Ads and Facebook Ads who have an appetite for working with SMEs. – Inbound Marketing.
Elements that are explained in depth during the podcast and you can listen to it here.
