Green hydrogen production in Asturias from wind energy

Post by pappu888 »

Key points of the Naturgy and Enagás project:

Have you ever heard of green hydrogen? If not, don't miss out, because this could be the energy that revolutionizes your business.

Green hydrogen is the sustainable fuel of the future , which will gradually replace fossil fuels. This new source of energy is considered a key factor in the transition towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy sector.

Fortunately, hydrogen is the most abundant element in our atmosphere and, in addition to being a fuel, it is also used as a tool in oil refining, the production of ammonia and methanol, and the manufacture of owner/partner/shareholder email lists steel and other industrial processes. However, hydrogen itself is not the element that will dominate the sustainable fuels of the future. The fundamental component is found in the way in which said hydrogen is obtained. To date, hydrogen is almost entirely manufactured using fossil fuels such as natural gas or coal, which is why it is responsible for the emission of around 830 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. For this reason, there are many efforts being made to discover how to change the way we supply the demand for this very useful fuel.

Green hydrogen and its production

Here is the solution! The same fuel, but generated from renewable sources, is an excellent and much more sustainable alternative. Green hydrogen can be produced through the electrolysis of water , a process that requires electricity. So, if a renewable source is used for generation, we will have obtained hydrogen without a polluting process. This hydrogen can then be used domestically, or it can be transported to other countries through gas pipelines.
In the same way, with the reverse process of electrolysis, we can obtain electricity from hydrogen . It is a renewable source that offers many options.

As this is a resource with so many possibilities, at Naturgy we are working together with Enagás on the potential production of green hydrogen generated from wind energy obtained from two parks , one floating offshore and the other on land in Asturias. The goal of the project is to ensure that the hydrogen obtained can supply the demand of part of the industry of the producing Autonomous Community.
Obtaining this green hydrogen through renewable energies provides it with added value and interest that has allowed the initiative to be a candidate for a European common interest project (IPCEI).
